ABOUT SERGEJ

After living in 3 different countries, touring Asia, Russia, Europe, the U.S, and recording with numerous artists, Sergej Avanesov, a Russian-born saxophonist, composer, educator, “Jimmy Heath Award” recipient is now settled in New York, where he works both as a performer and a music educator.

Coming from a multicultural family, from an early age he was exposed to cultural and musical authenticity, which later on led him to pursue music as his life career and mission.
After graduating from a renowned jazz music school named after Kim Nazaretov in Rostov-on-Don, he continued his music studies in Groningen, The Netherlands, at Prince Claus Conservatory, participating in numerous competitions and performing at festivals in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Estonia. 
After graduating and receiving his Bachelor’s degree, Sergej moved to New York City to obtain a Master’s Degree in Music Performance at Aaron Copland School of Music under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed saxophonist and educator Antonio Hart. During his time studying and performing, Sergej discovered his passion for teaching and started to look for opportunities of sharing his knowledge and love for music with kids, teenagers, adults, and anyone interested, and willing to learn.

For the past 7.5 years, Sergej has been teaching music and providing private in-home and/or group music lessons.
Through this website, Sergej aims to reach out to and connect more families that are looking for experienced, passionate, caring music and art, yoga teachers to help discover, and encourage the inner artist.
